The Vision

Lakeside is currently owned by a computer company, manufacturing a range of products, software and offering computer services.
The site consists of a two story block of offices set in 18 acres of woodland with a lake.  It is in Shipley, on the edge of Heanor in Derbyshire.
The vision is to buy the building and land in order to set up a Comunity Interest Company(*) that promotes other small local art and craft businesses and provides a range of services from which other members of the local community can benefit. These are all explained in further detail on their respective web pages within this site.
We aim to redevelop the building, giving it a new lease of life, in as eco friendly a method as possible.
Furthermore,we would look at managing the woodland attached to the property which has been neglected for a number of years.
Each of the businesses within the property would be self supporting, and through rents etc would plough money back into the main project. The whole operation would be managed as a Comunity Interest Company,(*) enabling it to continue long after the initial individuals have moved on.
The idea for the property is to create one or two independent houses, one for the manager/caretaker to live in and the other to provide a guarenteed rental income to ensure the upkeep of the property.
The remailder of the building would be devided up into studio and workshop units.  Some of these would be available on long term rental (a year as a minimum), while others would be available for short term rental - an evening, a day, a weekend, a week or a month.  This would again provide income into the community project and flexibilty for the community members who wish to make use of the building.
Ultimately, there may be scope for other aspects of the land to be used in eco friendly ways.
