My interest in the Lakeside Community Project is to provide a centre for the teaching and practice of circus based skills in the Heanor/Ilkeston area.
I am a circus performer having entertained at castles, shopping centres, community fetes, private houses, hotels etc for the past 20 years.  I have not only provided entertainment for hundreds of functions and events, but also taught countless numbers, both children and adults a range of circus skills including: juggling, diabolo, plate spinning, flower (or devil) stick, object balancing, stiltwalking, unicycling, tightrope etc during this time..
The building of Lakeside lends itself perfectly as a location to set up a circus training centre for the local community.  Part of my plan is to provide these skills for a very modest sum to local schools, youth groups, organisations, clubs etc within the building and grounds.  I believe that there should be some payment made for this which will go into the upkeep and running costs of the project.
As a self employed entertainer, I would also provide circus skills to businesses in the area as a means of team building and co-operation, confidence building, dealing with fear and reacting to the unexpected etc. This aspect would be part of my own business and separate from the community work carried out there. In this instance, I would then hire the space from the Lakeside Community Project.

I would not attempt to teach all of these, but there are many skills, such as trapeze, silks, hoops, acrobalance that could be taught there.  I have many contacts around the country via my agency, so specialist courses could be run from time to time in skills such as those which are outside my scope.
