It is on the edge of the Shipley Country Park, which is a very busy recreational area just on the edge of Heanor. It is in part of the old coal mining region of Derbyshire, and area that was once a thriving industrial community but which is now being rejuvinated with areas of interest for peope to visit.
There are 3 primary schools within a fairly close proximity to the building and part of the plan is to open the workshops and spaces to these schools to enable the pupils to experience skills that they might not otherwise get a chance to try.
