Quilting

A community space for quilting in Shipley would enable the continuation of the age old traditional
Quilting Bee. Members of the community would be able to come together to learn, improve and share
quilting experiences making the future heirlooms, for families, friends and worthwhile causes.
Space is crucial when a huge quilt is worked upon by a number of people and storage is a luxury that
is never taken for granted, when a quilter spies beautiful fabric that can be re-cycled and stashed
away for that special piece. A range of sewing machines to suit all abilities would be provided.
A workshop space, large enough to hold enough people together with sewing machines would be perfect to
 support PROJECT LINUS - a wonderful worldwide project that supports hospitals, hospices, and individuals
suffering from long-term illness. There is a need in both Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire for a
community space that would support and offer facility for quilters to come together, and work upon
quilts to make life just that little bit brighter with the huge hug that is a handmade quilt.
Schools, youth groups, home educators, womens groups, to name but a few could all be supported by
using the workshop facility.

Location is everything when creativity needs a prompt or when relaxation is a necessary component
 to retreat and take a break from the rat-race.  Lakeside is such a beautiful location and is the perfect
backdrop for workshops, ideal to whet the appetite and inspire creativity

The above photographs were taken while making a quilt as a wedding present. Locations used were the Parish rooms in Shipley and a private house.
Lakeside would make a perfect venue to make items of this nature without the need to move materials from one place to another and have the need to find available space as required as it would be all there in one place.
